Set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains in Cashiers, North Carolina, Summerwood Performing Arts Center resides as the mountain home of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. This small conservation community committed to Nature and the Arts strives to offer the highest standards of performance in an atmosphere that captures the Cashiers lifestyle. DesignWorks conceived a master plan for Summerwood that reflects the natural setting and Cashiers’ high regard for Nature and the Arts.

Modeled after the principles that guided the placement and privacy of the great estates in the early part of the 20th century, this master plan places the Main Pavilion on the former site of an exclusive mountain inn. A Symphony Hall acts as the center piece of the plan while sixteen homesites are provided in three district enclaves that exist around Lake Fairfield, the Formal Garden, and the Performance Center.

Due to the deep respect of this most splendid natural setting, a conservation easement envelopes the entire site.
