Projects community planning

Beresford
Berkeley County, South Carolina
547 acres

Award Winning Master Plan

Beresford Hall is a 547 acre parcel of land located in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The community plan for Beresford Hall included 200 home sites with neighborhood parks, nature trails, community center, and boat landing.

DesignWorks approached the project by first designing significant site features for preservation, and selecting appropriate locations for community open space. Secondly the community was organized into three distinct areas consisting of “The Village, the Parks/Squares, and the Parish”. The Village is the core of the community. The settlement sites in the Village front onto the main community park, Grand Council Mall, and are accessed by alleys. The areas designated as Parks and Squares are similar in principle to the Village, however they are not as formally defined. Settlement sites in the Parish are woven into the natural fabric of the community and are laid out along a street that winds through the site.

An extensive trail and sidewalk system was designed to connect all of the public parks together forming a contiguous network of circulation and offering a variety of options for movement around the neighborhood. Wildlife corridors are provided to minimize the impact on the natural patterns of the landscape.
