Kinloch
Richmond, Virginia
650 acres
Master Plan
In 1995, DesignWorks prepared the initial master plan for Kinloch, which features 650 acres of gently rolling terrain encircling a 75-acre lake. The neighborhood layout, based on Olmsted’s work at Riverside, a Chicago suburb, organizes 350 home sites in a sweeping grid that directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic to a waterfront promenade and park. The streets mimic the undulating terrain, preserving drainage patters and local vegetation and positioning homes on prominent sites above street elevation.
DesignWorks provided detailed design of the entire public realm and established design guidelines for the individual homes. DesignWorks also provided the master plan for the private golf club, which included design for the clubhouse grounds, entry road, practice grounds and cottages.
