Urban Square

Court Square is, historically, the most important public space in downtown Greenville. Located along Main Street, at the crest of a hill rising up from the Reedy River, Court Square is today bounded by City Hall, the Poinsett Hotel, the Historic Family Court Building, the old Chamber of Commerce Building and several ground floor retail structures.

The new design for Court Square reunites the entire space as a place for pedestrians. Paved in brick and stone, which is consistent with historic materials, the space provides an elegant punctuation to the Main Street context. The existing structures gain new prominence within the space. The space is elegantly furnished with lights, bollards, custom designed benches, trees, and paving patterns expressive of the square and locations have been established for new monuments and pieces of public art.
